Mission statement

Freshwater resources are increasingly becoming a societal concern of transnational relevance. The sustainable use and preservation of natural waters require combined efforts from research, technology and management.

The WasserCluster Lunz GmbH is an interdisciplinary freshwater research center and designed to advance and teach freshwater science and to resolve challenges at the environment-society interface. The scientific expertise ranges from microbial ecology to biogeochemistry, from limnology to landscape ecology, and from ecotoxicology to technology. This combines aquatic ecology and technology in a unique set-up for innovative basic and applied research.

The WasserCluster Lunz is operated in conjunction with the University of Vienna, the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna and the Danube University Krems, and supported by a partnership with the Provincial Government of Lower Austria, the Federal Government of Austria, and the Municipality of Vienna.

The research center is located on the shore of Lake Lunz („Lunzer Untersee“) and surrounded by a magnificent Alpine scenery.
