Aquatic Research in Lunz am See

Limnological research will always remain tightly linked to the location of Lunz am See. Scientists such as Franz Ruttner, August Thienemann or Carl Wesenberg-Lund are well known worldwide for their fundamental contributions to lake ecology — and they all worked in the former "Biologische Station Lunz" of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

The building of the WasserCluster Lunz GmbH

The building was originally constructed as a school in 1940.
After World War II, the building was transformed into a holiday camp, and innumerable children from Austria and abroad enjoyed the lake and woods for decades.
The Government of Lower Austria has now generously adopted the building to the needs of modern research and eaching.

1957 Prof. Franz Ruttner geht in    Pension, Nachfolger Prof.
         Ingo Findenegg
1967 Prof. Ingo Findenegg geht in Pension,  neuer Leiter  Prof.
         Heinz Löffler
1972 Verein Biol. Station Lunz wird aufgelöst,   ÖAW gründet
         Institut für Limnologie, geschäftsführender    Direktor
         Prof. Heinz Löffler, BSL nunmehr Abteilung
1977 Dr. Gernot Bretschko wird Abteilungsleiter der      BSL.
         Beginn von RITRODAT
1985 Bauliche Erweiterung    der BSL   durch    das  Land NÖ
1998 ÖAW  entscheidet sich zur Schließung der BSL mit 2003
2003 Schließung

2004 Entscheidung    für den   neuen   Standort
          ehemaliges NÖ Landesgästehaus

2005 - 2007  Umbau des NÖLandesgästehauses
