About WasserCluster Lunz

WasserCluster Lunz  is a nonprofit research center shared to equal amounts by the University of Vienna, the Danube University Krems, and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU Vienna). The research center is financially supported by the Provincial Government of Lower Austria and the Municipality of Vienna.

WasserCluster Lunz pursues basic and applied research on aquatic ecosystems. Beside field studies also experimental work in the laboratory and in specifically developed outdoor constructions are in the focus of research. Our researchers work at the highest level on current questions of aquatic ecosystem research, such as questions of climate change, diversity research, water resource management or renaturation of waters.

WasserCluster Lunz pursues university and postgraduate training at an international level and accomplishes education-cooperation-projects and pedagogic outdoor activities on a regional level. Moreover the research center is also a scientific meeting place of national and international scientists and students. Researchers and students from all over the world have participated at international workshops and meetings in our house in the last years.

WasserCluster Lunz welcomes enquiries from scientists who are interested in a sabbatical leave in our research centre. At WasserCluster Lunz you find best conditions to work and you are able to interact with the scientists at our research center in the stunning surroundings of Lake Lunz. Interested persons are invited to contact us.

WasserCluster Lunz was founded in 2005 with the primary motivation to follow the scientific legacy of the Biological Station Lunz, which was established in 1905 and closed in 2003. The Biological Station Lunz was well known for its outstanding research in limnology throughout the 20th century. Scientists such as Franz Ruttner, August Thienemann or Carl Wesenberg-Lund were worldwide well known for their fundamental contributions to lake ecology.
